I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.
There are silent heroes among us.
They spend a morning every week helping a mother study for her GED test—and achieve her lifelong dream of an education.
They knit blankets for babies they never see.
They shuttle families to Parent Meetings, never knowing that it may be the only time the family leaves their home that month.
They mail thousands of newsletters offering words of
encouragement to anxious, first time parents
At CHIP, we call them Volunteers.
It is a matter of fact that CHIP would simply not exist without the work of committed volunteers. We began as a grassroots effort, led by a courageous group of leaders who had a vision of a community that lifted up its most vulnerable children with the promise of a healthy childhood, and a more equitable future.
The concept of CHIP emerged from those early meetings of volunteers. Since that time, CHIP has evolved into a multi-faceted agency providing programs and services to low-income children and families throughout the Roanoke Valley, and in 31 localities throughout Virginia. The reality of this achievement is staggering and would not have been possible without those volunteers, fundraisers, silent heroes, who had a vision and worked tirelessly to achieve that goal.
During the 2014 Fiscal Year volunteers donated 3,130 hours of service to CHIP of Roanoke Valley.
